How intellectual property law approaches the issue of parallel importation has been quite important and interesting to examine. The world has been witnessing the differing stances between countries on the practice. While objection to the practice has been intense, arguments for it can not be neglected. The most important intellectual property international agreement, the Agreement on Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS), has therefore given up on the issue and conferred discretion on countries to take any position.

This book examines the stance taken by several countries in Asia on the issue of parallel importation and unveils the underlying rationale behind their stance. The current position of Indonesian intellectual property laws on the issue is uncertain. This book finally investigates how Indonesia should approach the issue of the practice. M. Hawn teaches intellectual property law and international trade law at the Faculty of Law of the Gadjah Mada University, Yogyakarta, Indonesia. In 1989, he got his Sarjana Hukum (SH) from the Faculty (Cum Laude), and, in 1996, finished his Master of Laws (LL.M) at the Washington College of Law, American University. In 2004, Hawin completed his Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) in intellectual property laws at the University of Queensland, Australia.
