The needs of land in urban areas is increasing in line with population growth and socio-economic activities. The city development leads to the shift functions of the city to the suburbs, called the urban physical feature spread process toward the outsides. Yogyakarta city developments will affect the surrounding areas such as Gamping, Mlati, Depok and Berbah, as the suburb areas of Yogyakarta city in Sleman Regency. The rapid regional development in District Gamping, Mlati, Depok and Berbah lead the escalation of agricultural land conversion into non-agriculture, thereby reducing the agricultural area. Reduction of wetland area will be very influential in rice production and then eventually impact on the food security. The aims of the research titled the effect of agricultural wetland conversation into non-agricultural land to the food security in District Gamping, Mlati, Depok and Berbah, Sleman Regency are (1)determine the speed of agricultural wetland conversion into non-agricultural land in the period 2005-2014; (2) the effect of the agrarian population density, wetland productivity, and well-being of farmers to the land conversion; and (3) the effect of land conversion to the food security in District Gamping, Mlati, Berbah and Depok, Sleman Regency. Data collection method of the research is field survey and document study. The techniques of data analysis were map overlay, statistical analysis, and rice selfsufficiency limit analysis. The land use change from 2005 to 2014 and an average rate of land conversion were obtained by overlaying land use map in 2005 with land use map in 2014. The multiple linear regression is used on statistical analysis to the 2? ?research objective while the third oobjective was obtioned from the difference between the rice stocks and the peoples foods needs of the research area. The results showed that the average rate of wetland conversion in the area of research is equal to 14,02 hectares per year. Agrarian population density, wetland productivity and well-being of farmers affect the land conversion of agricultural into non-agricultural purposes in District Gamping, Mlati, Depok, and Berbah. The land conversion decreases local food security. In 2014 the four districts are already in a vulnerable state of food security that need to bring rice from other regions to fulfill the populations food needs. Rice self-sufficiency limit has been passed over since about 6,42 years prior to 2014. Keywords: rice field land conversion, rice self-sufficiency, food security. |
